Trump Labels India a ‘Very Big Abuser’ of US Trade Ties, Vows Reciprocal Tariffs

India ‘very big abuser’ of trade ties with US, criticizes Donald Trump

New Delhi – In a recent statement, Donald Trump, former President of the United States, criticized India’s trade practices, labeling it a “very big abuser” of trade ties with the US. Trump highlighted the heavy tariffs imposed by India on US imports and vowed to implement reciprocal tariffs if re-elected.

Speaking on India’s trade policies, Trump stated, “If anybody charges us 10 cents, if they charge us USD 2, if they charge us a hundred per cent, 250, we charge them the same thing.” He emphasized the need for fair and reciprocal trade practices between nations.

Trump also acknowledged the challenges posed by India, Brazil, and China in trade negotiations. Referring to India and Brazil as “tough”, he expressed that China was the “toughest” to deal with in terms of trade relations. He underscored the importance of addressing trade imbalances and ensuring a level playing field for US businesses.

Regarding an upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump praised Modi as a “fantastic man” and commended his leadership. He remarked, “He (Modi) happens to be coming to meet me next week, and Modi, he’s fantastic. I mean, fantastic man.” Trump expressed his respect for global leaders like Modi and highlighted the need for constructive dialogue to address trade issues.

In a related development, Trump met with Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Florida in July. Orban, a close ally, is optimistic about a Republican victory in the upcoming November elections. The meeting underscored the importance of international partnerships in promoting economic growth and strategic cooperation.

The comments from Donald Trump reflect his commitment to advocating for fair trade practices and addressing trade imbalances with key trading partners. His emphasis on reciprocal trade and leveling the playing field underscores the importance of fostering mutually beneficial trade relationships.
