The British police are intensifying their search for Pankaj Lamba, an Indian-origin man accused of murdering his wife, 24-year-old Harshita Brella. The investigation began after Brella’s body was found in the boot of a car in Ilford, east London, last week.
This shocking case has not only highlighted the tragedy of domestic violence but also raised questions about police oversight and response.

Police Suspect Pankaj Lamba Fled the Country
According to Northamptonshire Police, the investigation took a grim turn after concerns about Brella’s welfare prompted a visit to her home in Corby. Officers received no response, leading to a missing person inquiry. On Thursday, her body was discovered inside a car on Brisbane Road, Ilford.
Chief Inspector Paul Cash revealed during a press briefing that authorities believe Lamba transported Brella’s body from Northamptonshire to Ilford. “We suspect Lamba has since fled the country,” said Cash, as he appealed for public assistance in locating the suspect.
A Tragic Life Cut Short
A post-mortem examination confirmed that Brella had been murdered. Describing her as a young woman with a promising future, Chief Inspector Cash called the incident “absolutely tragic.” Reports have revealed that Brella was under a domestic violence protection order issued just weeks before her death. This raises concerns about the effectiveness of such measures in preventing harm.
Over 60 Detectives Working on the Case
The murder investigation has mobilized significant resources, with more than 60 detectives from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) and North amptonshire Police working tirelessly on the case. Efforts are focused on reconstructing the timeline of events leading to Brella’s death and identifying Pankaj Lamba’s whereabouts.
An image of Pankaj Lamba has been shared with the public, and authorities have called for anyone with information to come forward. “We are determined to bring justice for Harshita and her family,” emphasized Chief Inspector Cash.
Domestic Violence Spotlight
This case has reignited discussions about domestic violence and the systems in place to protect victims. Experts have pointed out the need for improved enforcement of protective measures, especially in cases where victims remain at high risk.
