US Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil has been accused of forcing her former chief of staff, Chad Condit, into performing sexual acts. The allegations came to light shortly after the senator introduced a bill for sexual violence.
In April 2024, Alvarado-Gil introduced Senate Bill 268, which classify the rape of person as a violent felony and advocates for stricter punishments for sexual crime.

In a video, Alvarado-Gil passionately champion the significance of the bill and calls for unwavering public support in combating sexual violence. She discussed the importance of the bill and called for public support in combating sexual violence, highlighting that an American is sexually assaulted every 73 seconds and emphasizing the importance of supporting survivor.
However, her former chief of staff, Chad Condit, has now filed a lawsuit alleging that Alvarado-Gil forced him into a “sexual quid pro quo” relationship, wherein he was coerced into sexual acts to keep his job. He claims that while on work trips, the senator pressured him into performing these acts, which resulted in severe back and hip injuries. One incident, according to Condit, occurred in a car, leaving him with three herniated discs and a collapsed hip.

Condit further alleges that when he used his injuries as an excuse to reject further advances, Alvarado-Gil retaliated by issuing a disciplinary letter accusing him of inappropriate behavior. He claims this led to his termination in December 2023, shortly before he was scheduled for back surgery. Condit describes his professional relationship with the senator as being marred by sexual abuse of power, and refers to her as an “erratic” and “controlling” boss in the lawsuit.
Senator Alvarado-Gil’s lawyer has denied the accusations, calling them baseless and claiming that Condit is a “disgruntled former employee” attempting to profit from false allegations. The lawyer stated that the senator expects to be fully cleared of any wrongdoing.
Adding to the controversy, Alvarado-Gil recently switched from the Democratic to the Republican party, citing disagreements with the Democratic party’s current leadership.
